Project to Develop the Quality of Education in Small Schools in 2020
Working with Wat Khao Yi San School, Yi San Subdistrict, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province, began in 2018. In 2020, there was an evaluation of previous project implementation, an assessment of the potential of schools and personnel, and brainstorming to create a plan to raise the quality of education for effectiveness and continuity, with the goal of becoming a model for further developing the quality of education in small schools. The operational plan for 2021 has been determined as follows.

1.1 Develop Academic Work Systems:
1) Collaborate with Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit to develop personnel and teaching styles that are appropriate for the current school environment and context.
2) Assist educational personnel with learning subjects that are lacking.
3) Support modern and appropriate equipment for the COVID-19 outbreak.
4) Support scholarships for students with good academic records but limited financial resources up to the bachelor’s degree level.

1.2 Support Activities that Develop Vocational Skills based on the Local Context:
Growing organic crops for consumption within the school and increasing knowledge of cultivation in the form of Permaculture.

Q: What are the teaching methods used to achieve higher O-net exam results than national scores?

A: We have academics who focus on improving students’ learning skills. However, we prioritize developing discipline and responsibility. Studying is studying. When in the classroom, they must pay attention and find activities to help students improve their skills and make learning less boring. Before taking the exam, all teachers will intensively tutor students by practicing the original exam guidelines in order to develop analytical thinking skills. When it comes time to take the actual exam, they will have honed their skills and will be prepared.

Q: How do small and large schools approach student development differently?

A: 1) Teachers are limited 2) Technology in teaching 3) Budget 4) Access to student learning resources. It is unavoidable, but we can deal with it based on our strength and personnel. There are few teachers, so they must be versatile. If technology is out of date, we use media to teach and learn in the manner that we do. Therefore, if there are limitations, we must manage them appropriately.

Q: What are your thoughts on students who graduate from small schools and go on to higher education?

A: As teachers, we strive to encourage and support them in reaching their full potential. Teachers must also coordinate with various agencies to find funds to help their students achieve their goals. Furthermore, the school can help students develop professional skills outside of the classroom, adding value to their education.

Q: Discussing the project to improve the quality of education at Wat Khao Yi San School.

A: First and foremost, I’d like to thank the administrators of the Suthirat Yoovidhya Foundation for recognizing the value of small schools. This project will supplement the school in terms of personnel, equipment, and technology that are necessary for teaching and learning, allowing children to access a variety of educational media and learn valuable skills. If the project succeeds, it will benefit both children and teachers by expanding their knowledge. Advisors from Srinakharinwirot University’s academic department, Prasarnmit, have also joined us on this project. I’d like to thank you for giving our school a chance.

Project to Improve the Quality of Small School Education in 2021 (Year 2)

Working with Srinakharinwirot University, Prasarnmit is driving the project to improve the quality of small school education at Wat Khao Yi San School in Yi San Subdistrict, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province. In 2021, we visited the area to collect data on the school context, community, personnel, teaching structure, and academic achievement, as well as problems and obstacles, and used the data to analyze and evaluate the school’s potential to design a project to improve education quality that will result in academic achievement goals and a model for teaching and learning in small schools.

As a result of the project implementation in 2021, a financial support of 714,000 baht was provided to develop the educational quality system of small schools in three areas, as follows:

1) Support the recruitment and hiring of educational personnel in learning subject groups with shortages, as well as personnel to teach and support project work, in the academic year 2021, with the following three positions.

1) Miss Jirapa Chankaew, Mathematics Learning Group 2) Miss Supaporn Anantui, Physical Education Learning Group 3) Mr. Panuwat Niwasawat, Project Support Personnel

2) Support modern teaching equipment that allows schools, teachers, and students to search for information and study knowledge in the classroom, both in normal situations and during the COVID-19 outbreak. It includes 9 notebook computers, 9 webcams, 20 tablets, 1 television, and internet packages to give students access to current knowledge and teaching resources. This will have an impact on improving the educational quality in small schools.

From visiting the area to jointly develop the project with Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit, the Suthirat Yoovidhya Foundation intends to form an official collaboration with Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit and Wat Khao Yi San School in 2022 by signing a memorandum of understanding (MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING: MOU) to move forward with the project to improve education quality in small schools.

3 ) Support continuous scholarships for students at Wat Khao Yi San School who have good academic results but lack funds up to the bachelor’s degree level, at a cost of 10,000 baht per scholarship, with the following selection criteria:

3.1 ) Students applying for scholarships must be initially selected by the school and enrolled in sixth grade.
3.2 ) Students applying for scholarships must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 (grades 4–6).
3.3 ) Students must exhibit good behavior, adhere to school discipline, avoid disciplinary punishment, be determined to study, come from a low-income family, or have a sponsor with limited funds.
In 2021, two scholarships were awarded:

1) Yanakorn Rojnarong, Grade 6 2) Kritsana Sarasit, Grade 6

Currently, Yanakorn Rojnarong and Kritsana Sarasit are studying in Mathayom 1 at Satthasamut School, Lat Yai Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Songkhram District, Samut Songkhram Province.
